Information from news and various sources:

Glyn Johnson spent four years in the U.S. Navy, but was not a military pilot. He obtained his private pilot’s license several years ago.

“Flying was his passion,” Grafton said. “He was actually building some sort of airplane in his garage.”

"He was one of those industrious kind of people who was always doing something,” his mother said “As a child, he was an (on the) edge-liver. He was already jumping off of tables and national park signs when we were there. He was just very active.”

The three were headed to Marksville, La., where Johnson, a trained skydiver and skydiving instructor and a former schoolteacher in Jackson County, was planning to take a skydiving group out for the day Saturday, but they never made it.

“They were soulmates,” Cheevers said Monday of her daughter, Tabitha and Glyn, both 39. “They just kept coming back to each other. He was very handsome, too. Nelson looked just like him. They were all very happy.”

Johnson and Dolbare had known each other since they were in their teens, and had been together off and on over the years.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better mom,” Tabitha Dolbare’s daughter, Skyla Fletcher, 20, said. “She did everything she could for us. She took us to Disney World all the time. She probably took us twice a year since I was 11. We went last April. We all went. We always had a lot of fun. He (Glyn Johnson) was always telling us jokes.”

Nelson, an avid football player who also loved to go swimming and fishing, was a sixth-grader at Gautier Middle School. He often spent his weekends with his mother and father, usually going on skydiving jaunts.

It wasn’t unusual, the family said, for the threesome to take off in Johnson’s plane en route to some type of skydiving event or exercise, where Tabitha and Nelson helped Johnson do things like pack up his chute after skydiving.

Johnson, a graduate of the now defunct Live Oak Academy in Jackson County, attended Ole Miss, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English, with an emphasis in history and Spanish in 1997.

Dolbare graduated with honors from Pascagoula High School in 1987 and attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Jackson County campus.

At the time of her death, Dolbare was working in inventory and control at IP Casino in Biloxi. She spent her off-time with Johnson, their son, Nelson, and her daughter, Skyla.
